Thanasis Deligiannis

Composer and music theatre maker Thanasis Deligiannis (GR/NL) will be artist in residence at Gaudeamus Muziekweek in 2017 en 2018. Gaudeamus Muziekweek will coach him for two years in his development. With his interests in interdisciplinarity and the role of the arts in society, Deligiannis is a perfect match with Gaudeamus Muziekweek. Deligiannis’s residency is supported by a Nieuwe Makers grant from the Fonds Podiumkunsten.

Thanasis was born in Larisa, Greece, in 1983 and grew up in a family of traditional musicians. In his late teenage he moved to Thessaloniki to study composition and music theatre at the University of Macedonia. A few years later he moved to Amsterdam to finish his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and to explore the city’s contemporary music scene. He has worked as assistant artistic director for the Nieuw Ensemble from 2011 till 2014, while since 2011 he works as an artistic coordinator for the Atlas Academy and the Composers’ Festival Amsterdam of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2014 Thanasis co-founded the Amsterdam-based interdisciplinary group I/O, together with a team of artists of various backgrounds.
