Musical makers collective BUI (platform for improvised arts in Utrecht) is building a ritual playground. Constantly moving to the rhythm of the city. Wind instruments extended with PVC pipes can be heard, long drum rolls, scaffolding is built up and taken down, melodies are sung or sounds of the space listened to. All inspired by the here and NOW, a celebration of the moment. A musical ritual of which the space and the audience become an essential part.
In a performance arc of 60 minutes, BUI takes the spectator into a transforming playing field. In a composition inspired by the movement and power of the tide, the sound world of BUI expands (ebb) and expands (flow). How can you watch safely and when do you ‘drown’ in the playing field? BUI is taking part in a New Makers program at Gaudeamus in 2023 and 2024, which is financially supported by the Performing Arts Fund.
