At the end of Gaudeamus Festival 2024, one of the five nominees will win the Gaudeamus Award: our prestigious incentive prize for young composers. This year, Patrick Ellis, Beniamino Fiorini, Cem Güven, Lucy McKnight and Yxie Shen are nominated. After the award ceremony, HIIIT will close the festival with a piece by the 2021 Award winner, Annika Socolofsky.
The existence of queer love remains a blind spot, as Annika Socolofsky (winner of the Gaudeamus Award 2021) discovered when a group of professional detectives kept trying to hit on her friend during a night out – without realising she was clearly not straight. This formed the starting point for her new piece, performed by HIIIT: the most progressive percussion ensemble in the Netherlands and far beyond, formerly known as Slagwerk Den Haag. Preceded by K-ourante by Jinwook Jung, which builds a bridge between gender representation in K-pop culture and 17th and 18th-century France.
This concert is made possible through collaboration with the Ulysses Network and is financially supported by the Creative Europe program of the European Union.
