We cannot sleep
You may remember composer and director Luke Deane from the 2015 opera production 3 Cars, in which radio-controlled cars played the leading role in a tragic love story. An exceptional production, which with this unusual combination managed to surprise fans and critics alike, and made a big impression on the audience during Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2015.

And now we have Luke Deane’s newest creation: We Cannot Sleep. A trail-blazing production that by means of virtual reality immerses the audience in the world of opera. We Cannot Sleep is about a unique relationship between a lady and a young girl who appears in her dreams. As time passes they grow ever fonder of each other, until the true identity of the young girl is revealed. From then on their virtual friendship is at odds with reality, and relations become strained.

During the opera you are provided with VR glasses. Are you ready for your very first Virtual Reality opera?

GAUDEAMUS SATURDAY NIGHT
Last year’s formula for success, Gaudeamus Saturday Night, is getting a sequel!

An evening devoted entirely to the newest music in all its manifestations: overwhelmimg soundscapes, wrenching minimal music, experimental electronics, post-pop, … you name it! During Saturday Night you’ll experience new sounds and discover the latest developments on the music scene.

With its many different halls, TivoliVredenburg is the perfect location for presenting this spectacular and broad range of music. We begin Saturday Night with the incredible ensemble Insomnio from Utrecht. They’ve been bringing the house down for the past 20(!) years with their virtuoso and infectious playing. They open the Saturday evening of the Festival with special compositions by the high-profile composer and music theatre maker Heiner Goebbels.

We then challenge you with a route following the frontiers and fringes of (live) electronics with Zeno van de Broek, friendly Indie-classical by Van Dryver, or expressive Industrial and Raw Techno from SØS Gunver Ryberg from Denmark. Let yourself be blown away by an evening full of young music-makers who with different ingredients manage to create a style all their own.

One ticket for Gaudeamus Saturday Night gives you admission to no fewer than 12 different concerts and performances. A bursting Festival programme all on one evening, with unique acts and music you can’t stick a label on. Can you choose from this mind-expanding musical offering?
