Named after a composition by Frank Zappa, the Black Page Orchestra from Vienna focuses on radical and uncompromising new music. During the Saturday Night they will play compositions that are all based on the theme of darkness, while in this concert it is light that they are searching for. With music by Matthias Kranebitter, Øyvind Torvund, Itziar Viloria, Christof Ressi and Mirela Ivičević.
True to tradition, the final concert of our festival will be rounded off with the presentation of the Gaudeamus Award, our coveted annual incentive prize for young composers. Past winners of the Award included Pauline Oliveros, Louis Andriessen, Unsuk Chin and Michel van der Aa. This year four composers are competing for the Award: Jenny Beck, Matthew Ricketts, Annika Socolofsky and Gen Tanaka.
