Blink Quartet is a Netherlands-based string quartet, performing written and spontaneous music that uses improvisation as an important part of the music-making process. Creating works together across different disciplines, finding uncommon stage setups or locations are some of the group’s interests.
The backgrounds of the musicians involved are classical music, contemporary classical, jazz, free improvisation (characteristic of the Amsterdam scene), music theatre, and pop. This mixture is characteristic of the specific rich Dutch cultural environment.
The current project is centered around the compositions of George Dumitriu, inspired by circular shapes, cyclical movement, and the organic motion of bird flocks. These works have a meditative, repetitive nature which brings a different perception of time to the listener. This could be seen as an invitation to see the world from a different perspective in the current situation, an invitation to slow down.
