Accordion and violin, now there is a need for new music, far from the folklore that kept the combination stuck for a long time to an atmosphere of folk dances, traditional costumes and brown cafes. Brother and sister Van Amsterdam have always enjoyed shaking things up. They have formed a musical duo since 2004 and that same season they already won prizes at the National Accordion Competition. Five years later they won the National Accordion and Chamber Music Competition. In recent years, the Van Amsterdam Duo has sought to collaborate with contemporary composers. Such as with Jesse Passenier, who has roots in classical music and jazz, and was winner of the Rogier van Otterloo Award in 2017. Bonus: violin and accordion both have a dashing and stubborn character, so it’s nice if their players understand each other in every key and string stroke.
