Culture Connection: Walid Ben Selim

The French-Moroccan singer, rapper and poet Walid Ben Selim pays a musical tribute to the famous Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. The concert is part of the Arabic Crossroads Music & Poetry series. Culture Connection presents performing artists from North Africa and the Middle East who build bridges between cultures, genres and art disciplines and convey a strong message of solidarity, peace and freedom in their music.

Walid Ben Selim is one of those artists. Once active in the hard rock and then in the hip-hop scene in Morocco, he has focused on Arabic poetry since 2014. As frontman of the band N3rdistan, he brings meaningful Arabic poetry in a contemporary urban sound. He also composes music for film and opera. The supporting program on October 24 will include performances by Utrecht artists such as Randa Awad, Duniyakoor & Musicaz.
