Percussionist Konstantyn Napolov is a tremendous champion of new repertoire for percussion instruments. In this context he will be presenting his project The Dutch Golden Collection in Utrecht next season: a programme of works by Martijn Padding, Louis Andriessen and Maxim Shalygin. Composer Christiaan Richter developed his piece Droplets in close cooperation with Napolov. The work has been written especially for him. Natural processes provided the source of inspiration for this percussion cycle Droplets. In this four-part cycle one percussionist, using a meagre collection of wooden and metal objects as instruments, produces an extremely dynamic polyphony of periodic rhythms.
