Rembrandt Frerichs & de Staalmeesters

In his new project Off the Carousel, pianist and composer Rembrandt Frerichs challenges classical musicians to step outside their comfort zone. Whereas in their daily work they are only allowed to play what a composer wrote down centuries ago, Frerichs lets them improvise and create. With the perfecting of classical music, improvisation – originally an important part of the working method of many classical composers – has increasingly faded into the background. In Off the Carousel, Frerichs and his musicians seek to rediscover spontaneity and creativity.
