Every year, a common thread throughout our festival is the music by the nominees for the Gaudeamus Award. Handpicked by a professional jury from over 250 submissions sent in by composers from all over the world, these four music pioneers under 35 have their work showcased in concerts during the week, including brand new pieces that they wrote for Award Ensembles VONK and Zöllner/Roche. At the end of the week, one of the nominees will receive the Award, consisting of a commission for a new piece to be premiered in a future edition of the festival.
Meet the four nominees in this public interview by music journalist Thea Derks: Gen Tanaka (JPN), Jenny Beck (USA), Matthew Ricketts (CAN) and Annika Socolofsky (USA).
