Unbiased recorder player Juho Myllylä, as at home in contemporary composed music as prog rock and folk, plays four new works that came about through an open call commissioned by the Grachtenfestival, Gaudeamus and November Music. Together they create a unique aesthetic and approach to the recorder, with and without live electronics.
For Juho Myllylä by Adrián Crespo Barba combines bass (or basset) recorder with sine waves triggered by the flute. Also in Marsyas by Ernst Spyckerelle, Myllylä engages in a dialogue (or contest?) with electronics, while Raivis uses Misjun’s circular breathing to create a continuous, trance-like sound. Also, a new work in four movements by Hildur Elísa Jónsdóttir.
