Each year Gaudeamus explores every corner of Utrecht, but has never been to Leidsche Rijn before. This year we are descending for the first time on Podium Hoge Woerd, where we will start a new joint concert series in the 2021/2022 season. We are kicking off this series with an evening of brand- new music with a love for tradition. With collaborations between the multicultural Orchestre Partout and the Cello Octet Amsterdam, and between harpist Michela Amici and mezzo-soprano Elisa de Toffol.
Orchestre Partout, an orchestra that in 2010 started giving workshops in various refuge centres, seeks to make connections by means of musical cross-pollinations. Together with the Cello Octet Amsterdam they present semi-improvised brand-new works in which the traditions of Arabic and Persian music merge with those of Western composed music.
Harpist Michela Amici and mezzo-soprano Elisa de Toffol bring together the world of early Baroque Italian music and that of contemporary composed music. With the Baroque harp solo from Liknon by Composer Laureate of the Netherlands Calliope Tsoupaki as their starting point, they play brand- new works by young composers.
Read an interview with the composer Karmit Fadael over the piece she wrote for this concert.
