Aurélie Lierman & Silbersee

Composer Aurélie Lierman calls her music Afrique Concrète: a hybrid form of Afro-European music theatre in which her roots in Rwanda, her background as a radio maker and her fascination with everything that makes sound, come together. Together with Silbersee she now presents the intimate, performative installation Umva! about her 112-year-old grandfather Kanyoni Ladislas. An absolute living legend, who during his long life as a traditional medicine man and hunter saw Rwanda transformed through times of colonisation, the struggle for independence, genocides and post-war massacres, into the fragile country it is today. Through headphones the audience is immersed in a hybrid sound world, in which family stories, traditions and rituals, and above all intergenerational and intercultural differences and similarities come to life.
