Multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer and DJ Laila Sakini (“an enigma with a purpose” according to The Wire magazine) makes ghostly music, rich in textural detail. After releasing a string of acclaimed albums under her own name, in 2021 she chose to immerse herself further in anonymity and elusiveness by adopting the utterly un-Google-able pseudonym Princess Diana of Wales. Sakini’s sound world is one that is slow to reveal itself, but, as Resident Advisor wrote, “with each listen, there’s another line, another noise, that jumps out from Sakini’s sonic coral reef, a reef that feels simultaneously uplifting and deeply distressing.”
