During the Gaudeamus Sessies we present try-outs of our own productions, previews of the Muziekweek and work-in-progress by young ensembles and (yet) unknown composers. The programme of this 18th edition includes first presentations by Ivan Vukosavljević en Maya Fridman & Gagi Petrovic.
Ivan Vukosavljević
The Serbian composer and guitarist Ivan Vukosavljević has been living in The Hague for several years, there he received his Master’s degree in Composition at the Royal Conservatoire in 2017. Vukosavljević was nominated for the Gaudeamus Award last year and presented beautiful compositions for Ensemble Klang, stargaze and Kluster5. Vukosavljević models his compositions as a visual artist creates sculptures: slowly a beautiful (sound)image emerges.
In this Gaudeamus Session Vukosavljević presents new work in which he puts an electric guitar in a grand piano. The resonances of both strings show an exceptionally intense and intimate sound palette.
Maya Fridman & Gagi Petrovic
This electro-acoustic duo, consisting of cello, live electronics and two voices (mezzo soprano and bass-baritone), has an explorative and expressive attitude,. Fridman & Petrovic explore hybrid music making, in style and technology. They integrate musical elements from various practices, such as classical music, contemporary composition, songwriting, underground electronics and their shared background in Eastern-European music. The cello and their voices join the stage with the newly developed technological instrument GEST, which shapes aural transformations through hand gestures. Fridman & Petrovic create new connections between old and new instruments to sing songs that you haven’t heard before. We hope you’ll join them in this journey.
This project is part of the 1 year-residency from Maya Fridman at Gaudeamus.
