Karen Tanaka – Jury Talk: Music and Imagery

Japanese composer Karen Tanaka is one of the jury members for this year’s Gaudeamus Award. In 1987 she won the Award and for the 75th anniversary of Gaudeamus in 2020 she wrote a sequel to her Techno Etudes for Ralph van Raat, which will be performed on the Wednesday of this year’s festival. In this Jury Talk she provides an insight into her methods and techniques.

Karen Tanaka gives her talk about music and imagery: how to write music for images and how to enhance the emotions in a film more effectively. Tanaka teaches a film scoring class at CalArts Academy.
