This lunchtime concert is devoted entirely to the 2018 Tera de Marez Oyens Award. Tera de Marez Oyens was one of the most significant Dutch composers of the 20th century. In keeping with her intellectual legacy, an incentive prize is presented every two years to young, promising composers who live in the Netherlands.
This year the prize is open to students of composition who graduated from Dutch conservatories in 2016/17 and 2017/18. The nominees’ works can be heard at this concert. The prize consists of a sum of €2.000 for a short new composition to be performed during the 2019 Gaudeamus Muziekweek. After a brief jury deliberation, the prize will be presented. During the jury meeting De Marez Oyens’ composition Charon’s Gift for piano and tape will be performed.
