The Belgian Kugoni Trio consists of a unique line-up of piano, violin and saxophone. Ever since it was founded in 2010, the trio has arranged existing works, including ones by Piazzolla and Stravinsky, to fit this line-up. It also invests in new music, with a slight preference for music from Belgium.
The ensemble commissions several works per year, examples being a new piece by the Belgian Mathias Coppens and another by Jeroen D’Hoe, both of which will be heard this afternoon. But this concert also has an orange tint to it: the Dutch composer Bianca Bongers was commissioned by Gaudeamus to write a new piece for the Trio.
