‘Dare to do what you’ve never done before’: that is the motto of the Composer’s Kitchen, a residency organised annually by Quatuor Bozzini and involving four up-and-coming composers. American sound artist Sarah Davachi and the young composers Sílvia Lanao Aregay, Vitali Karagkezidis and Alec Hall have taken up the challenge. Four completely different explorations of the endless possibilities of the string quartet.
During the Composer’s Kitchen project the composers are guided by various mentors and they follow workshops, labs and masterclasses. In a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere they are given the opportunity to look beyond their conventions in search of new forms and aesthetics.
