This year we are pleased once again to welcome our favourite percussionists from The Hague as ensemble-in-residence. Slagwerk Den Haag is fascinated by everything concerned with sound, electric pulses and everyday materials that produce sound. They perform on more traditional percussion instruments, but also on porcelain, horses’ jaws, glass or 3D-printed instruments.
With this in mind, five nominees for the Gaudeamus Award have written brand-new works for them. During the intensive work week prior to the Festival, these compositions will be ‘hammered’ into the ensemble’s brains! These five world premieres can be heard spread over two concerts.
