Cellist Maya Fridman (1989) from Utrecht is musician-in-residence with Gaudeamus from season 2017/18 onwards. She is a very talented musician and graduated with honours from the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2016. Fridman is extremely versatile: she knows her way around contemporary and classical music, improvisation and jazz, gothic rock, and as a singer-songwriter. Tonight is the kick-off of her residency with a solo recital based on her recently released album Red Velvet. On the programme you will find works by two Gaudeamus Award Laureates (Louis Andriessen and Karen Tanaka), a Dutch premiere of a piece by Michael Gordon and several commissions that were written specially for her. Her solo programmes always have a strong emotional impact on the audience, which is why we are looking forward to her residency!
