There’s a riot going on! For Gaudeamus 2022, spectacular English Riot Ensemble (“volcanically creative”, according to Alex Ross of The New Yorker) voluntarily locks itself up in the former Pieter Baan Centre on the Gansstraat. In the cells of this psychiatric observation clinic, the musicians will give intimate performances of solo pieces written for them by young composers during the corona pandemic. Do you dare to be locked up with a musician? In the gymnasium, the brand new commissioned work by Kelley Sheehan, winner of the Gaudeamus Award 2019, will also be premiered.
Kelley Sheehan – consumed; teeth shut
Soosan Lolavar – undone
Evan Johnson – L’art de toucher le clavecin, 1
Auclair – Munganyinka is a Transformer
Xue Han – I am speaking to you
Oliver Thurley – the heart is a knot
