Seminar: Innovating in radically different musical contexts

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

What is innovation and what does it mean in different musical cultures? In this seminar led by Jonás Bisquert, Japanese composer Karen Tanaka, Indian composer/performer B.C. Manjunath, Cameroonian producer/DJ A.M.E.T. and the Spanish composer Alberto Granados Reguilón share the challenges they faced in their formative years and how they developed their own unique voice. This is followed by the practical element in the form of a musical dialogue between B.C. Manjunath and the New European Ensemble.

How have these four exciting music pioneers from all over the world applied themselves to innovation? Which artistic boundaries did they cross, what taboos did they break? They internalized and transcended their cultural background, thereby creating their own unique language. What challenges still await them? Come and listen, and join the conversation: what does innovation mean in your own culture?

This seminar is also the kickoff of our call for new music for B.C. Manjunath and New European Ensemble!
