Bass clarinetist Gareth Davis has applied himself completely to contemporary music, but he has a passion for music of all sorts and styles. From hardcore contemporary to noise, electronics or opera, Davis finds connections in all these genres. In Standards Project he harks back to his fascination with jazz.
He asks composers to choose a ‘jazz standard’ and to encrypt it into something totally new. Structure, density, themes – the composer is free to choose a new means of access. With three world premieres, this programme offers an abundance of new music for bass clarinet.
