The sound installations in the Festival Hub TivoliVredenburg are the work of the Canadian sound artist and composer Adam Basanta. His objects, despite their seemingly everyday appearance, manage to surprise you. In his sound sculpture Vessel the naturally acoustic properties of a large glass pot are amplified, which gives rise to a kind of lament consisting. The loudest sound in the room experienced very quietly, by means of an endless feedback loop between microphone, amplifier and loudspeaker, reaches a volume of 120 dB. The soundproofed aquarium that surrounds it ensures that you emerge without any damage to your hearing. Curtain (white) is a curtain made of hundreds of white earpieces. The curtain creates a sonic environment in which you retreat from the outside world, into your personalized ‘sonic bubble’.
The sound installations in TivoliVredenburg can be viewed, free of charge, around concerts and during opening hours of the festival desk. On Sunday 10 September Adam Basanta gives a short lecture and takes you on a tour to see his installations.
