Workshop: Live Coding and Algorithmic Composition – Timo Hoogland

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

Are you a composer or musician and have you always been curious about making algorithmic compositions? During this workshop you will be introduced to the Mercury live coding environment. A minimal language that is easy to read and work with, specially designed for live composing and performing of electronic music. You will learn to program various rhythms, play samples and compose melodies by using composition techniques such as serialism, generative algorithms, probabilities and more!

Creative Coding Utrecht (CCU) is the platform for digital creativity. CCU stimulates makers, connects organisations and sectors, inspires the public and shares knowledge with students, hobbyists and ICT professionals. CCU offers opportunities for a first investigation of creative coding and emerging technologies, but can also provide more in-depth support for practising artistic professionals. We are joining forces with Gaudeamus to organise two workshops during which you learn to make music by means of code.
