The first artists of the programme of Gaudeamus Festival 2024, which will take place in Utrecht from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 September, have now been announced. Highlights include the opening night in TivoliVredenburg, which focuses on the iconic work De Staat by Louis Andriessen, and features a brand new piece by composer Oscar Bettison, commissioned by Asko|Schönberg in response to De Staat. Both works are performed in their original setting by Asko|Schönberg and Ensemble Klang.
Other highlights include the French orchestra ONCEIM with new works by the renowned Swiss-American composer, turntablist and visual artist Christian Marclay and the Scottish-Dutch composer Genevieve Murphy, the performance ZUAM by Futurists Foundation and a programme in collaboration with the London label Nonclassical.
Production house De Diamantfabriek and the Maat Saxophone Quartet join forces for Metamorphosis, A Virtual Opera by composer and librettist Nuno Lobo and video artist Pedro Lobo, based on the short story The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Andrea Voets returns with her new theatrical radio show FOR REAL about the still common sexist intellectual undermining of women. The Utrecht maker collective BUI is a guest at the festival for the fourth time and is one of the crowd’s favorites every time.
And of course the Gaudeamus Award will again be presented to one of the five nominees: their work will be played by Trio Catch, Ensemble Klang, lovemusic and Riot Ensemble, among others.
