Gaudeamus is all about giving opportunities to young artists in the hope of kickstarting their careers. In this series of articles, we check in with some of the artists we worked with in the past to see where they are now. Episode 2: Anna Korsun, winner of the Gaudeamus Award 2014.
What are you up to at the moment?
I’m currently immersed in composing a piece for choir destined for a premiere at the Lucerne Festival. It’s a thrilling process that allows me to create another sonic experience working with one of my favourite instrument – human voice.
How do you look back on working with Gaudeamus and what role did it play in your career?
Collaborating with Gaudeamus was a pivotal chapter in my journey as a composer. It afforded me the invaluable opportunity to not only hear my compositions come to life in live high quality performances but also to craft pieces that resonated with my artistic vision. The experience was overwhelmingly positive, fueling my growth and confidence in the field.
What lasting influence has working with Gaudeamus on the work that you are making right now?
The creative liberty I enjoyed while working with Gaudeamus—choosing my own instrumentation, engaging with enthusiastic non-professional singers, and hearing my music resonate within exceptional acoustics—has profoundly influenced my current work. It instilled a deeper sense of self-assurance in my musical expressions, encouraging me to continue exploring and defining my voice in the world of composition.
