Intern business direction wanted

Do you want to discover what goes on behind the scenes of a festival organisation? Do you feel at home in an environment where artistic innovation and pushing musical boundaries are core business? Do you like organizing and dotting the i’s, but do you also enjoy a dynamic and hectic work environment? Gaudeamus is looking for an intern to support the management team for 16 to 20 hours per week from March/April to June 2025, in the run-up to the festival in September.

What is Gaudeamus?
Innovation and progress come from the bottom up. That is why Gaudeamus presents, stimulates and supports the latest music by young composers, sound artists and multidisciplinary makers. We do this with our annual festival, composition commissions, the Gaudeamus Award, concert series and residencies. Since 1945, Gaudeamus has introduced curious music lovers to the (composed) music of tomorrow: unheard-of combinations of genres, fresh perspectives on concert practice and radical new inventions in the field of sound and stage art, without boundaries or earmuffs. The festival will take place from 10 to 14 September 2025.

Description
As an intern, you will support the business director with various office tasks. You will learn all the practical and business ins and outs and details that come with organising a festival. You will work with the business director of Gaudeamus, but will have the opportunity to get to know all facets of organising a festival. The internship is substantive and executive, and can also be combined with a (graduation) research project if you want.

The task package, to be developed in consultation, can look like this:

  • Drawing up contracts, sending them, corresponding with artists about this
  • Conducting a mini-research comparing festivals in The Netherlands and abroad
  • Cleaning up address management and contact details
  • Cleaning up Google Drive folder structures
  • Runner during the festival and seasonal concerts

Profile
Gaudeamus is looking for a student (m/f/x), team player type, eager to learn and with a broad musical interest; you want to learn what it takes to organize a festival and would like contribute with your own ideas and creativity. You speak (and write) a good word of English and Dutch, you like to get things done and you know your way around Utrecht. You are following a relevant MBO / HBO / WO education (for example Arts Management or an Organization, Culture, or Media study).

Gaudeamus strives for a diverse and inclusive organization. Do you not exactly recognize yourself in the above profile, but would you really like to commit yourself to Gaudeamus and new music? Do not hesitate to respond with your story.

Period
From March/April to June (2 to 2.5 days, in consultation) with a possible extension during the festival (10-14 September). Working from home is possible in consultation, but we aim for at least a 25/75 division of working from home / presence at our office in Utrecht. An internship allowance of €375 per month is available for five full internship days per week.
