A year ago, Lacrimosa or 13 Magic Songs by Maxim Shalygin, commissioned by Gaudeamus, premièred during the Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2017, performed by the Shapeshift Ensemble. Last summer, the piece was released as a CD and high definition digital download by the Utrecht based record label TRPTK.
Now, Machinefabriek (a.k.a. sound artist/musician Rutger Zuydervelt from Rotterdam) made a remix commissioned by Gaudeamus and TRPTK of the second part of Lacrimosa, called Horns. An inventive deconstruction of an intense and frightening piece:
