Five composers have been selected for the Gaudeamus Award 2024, our annual incentive prize for composers under 35. The jury, consisting of Joanna Bailie, Maya Verlaak and Zaid Jabri, studied all the entries for the Gaudeamus Award, a total of 252 composers from all around the world. From this, they selected the following five works:
Objects and Portrait Projections by Patrick Ellis (GBR 1994)
Underwater Music #1 by Beniamino Fiorini (ITA 1993)
Atmospheric Manipulations by Cem Güven (TUR 1997)
when i am among the trees by Lucy McKnight (USA 1998)
Clouds by Yixie Shen (CHN, 1993)
The composers nominated for the Award 2024 will take part in the Gaudeamus Festival 2024, which will take place from 4 to 8 September at various locations in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Several of the pieces they submitted will be performed during the festival, and they will write a new work especially for the festival, for Trio Catch or Ensemble Klang.
