Slagwerk Den Haag is ensemble-in-residence at Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2018, 5 to 9 September at various locations in Utrecht. They play brand new pieces by 5 of the 6 nominees for the Gaudeamus Award. And during the opening night, they play on – and with – the escalators of TivoliVredenburg. The new piece by the 6th composer will be played by the second ensemble-in-residence Nikel.
We talked with percussionists Frank Wienk and Niels Meliefste in the woods of Wonderfeel Festival about their cooperation with the 5 young composers: “Later, when we will rehearse, so we only have a very short week to really put everything together. That will be pretty exciting still.” And about what they want to see themselves during the Muziekweek: “I’ve heard that Yannis Kyriakides wrote a new piece for percussion and piano. I really want to hear that.”
