“The romantic cliché of the composer in his attic has been adequately shattered. But a diminished version of it lives on: the composer as the musical director, having a final say over every note. The composer decides, the musician performs. An international group of young composers in Amsterdam is doing something completely different: they have united themselves in the collective Monoták, in which the traditional role-sharing has upended. The members of Monoták are performing musicians, concert promoters, roadies, pr-employers, occasional cocktail mixers - and yes, also composers.” – Joep Stapel, NRC
