Ivica Ico Bukvic, Thomas J Tucker – Two Crowdsourced Telematic EDM Work Performances
8-bit Petal and Territorio Prismático are the 4th and 5th crowdsourced telematic EDM works devised using L2Ork Tweeter software that enables telematic musicking in perfect sync regardless of the distance. This is a performance live over the internet with pristine audio quality. Part of the ensemble will be physically present in Herz.
Kieran McAuliffe – A History Told in Grains
The Powder Toy [1] is a free, open-source sandbox game. It features some of the most extensive systems out of all “falling sand” games, a genre in which players freely tinker with powder substances and observe their chaotic interactions. These games notably lack sound. As an enthusiast of the genre, I took it upon myself to add audio to The Powder Toy by pairing clouds of powdered substances with clouds of tiny sounds. The result is not an objective or realistic solution to how these quirky games should sound, but rather an artistic exploration. Using this solution, I present to you a history of the known universe told through grains of sand and grains of sound.
Steffan C Ianigro – Grunewald
Grunewald is an audio-visual composition inspired by my experiences walking through the Grunewald Forest in Berlin. The soft forest floor and abundance of trees and wildlife juxtapose the angular, geometric remains of a Cold War US listening station built on top of an artificial hill made of WW2 rubble. In this composition, this juxtaposition is explored by using two devices that were developed inspired by the concept of artificial life: an LFO and a MIDI Gate device.
Patrick G Hartono – Ciung Wanara
Ciung Wanara is an interactive audiovisual composition inspired by Indonesian shadow puppet battles. The performance takes a semantic approach, featuring two distinct rooster avatars that respond in real-time to the performer’s gestures. The performer uses two avatars controlled by their hand movements to recreate the tale of Ciung Wanara, a wise king and skilled cockfighter who triumphs over an evil sorcerer. The Sabetan technique of Indonesia Wayang Kulit and the FluComa machine learning library allows the performer to simultaneously generate and control digital sound synthesis, multi-channel spatialization, and visuals.
Nicholas Shaheed – degr d t n
This performance uses the ’I Am Sitting in a (Latent) Room’ improvisation system [1]. Inspired by Alvin Lucier’s ’I Am Sitting in a Room’ and the general process of degrading sound by repeatedly passing it through an acoustic medium, it is a system that allows the improvisers to interact with the process of degradation in real time.
