NIME Concert: Gaudeamus Lunchbreak

A special and diverse program catered to the Gaudeamus lunch concert audience. The Gaudeamus public is invited to participate in the mobile phone orchestra.

Anders Lind – VOYAGE ONE: Mobile Phone Orchestra Performance
Voyage One is a 6-minute composition for a participatory Mobile Phone Orchestra (MPO) concept developed by Anders Lind. The MPO concept is designed to embrace people regardless their musical backgrounds as performers, but still with an aim to generate expressive and meaningful artistic expressions for concert hall performances.

Robert Ek and Kim Hedås – One Grain of Sound
This system was initially created by clarinettist Robert Ek in 2022. It focuses on non-pitched sound material from the clarinet, like tongue rams, key clicks, and different types of air sounds. It uses a fixed electroacoustic instrument where the musician explores a sound space with the help of gestures.

Yao Hsiao – Consort yu
Consort yu was inspired by the traditional Chinese Peking Opera “The Hegemon-King Bids His Lady Farewell,” which is about the fight between two kings, Xiang Yu and Liu Bang. The Leap Motion controller is used to control the gestures of Peking opera in a live performance setting.

Cléo Palacio-Quintin – ALÉAS: La connaissance ruissel.e des solides
Streamed knowledge of solids, for hyper-bass-flute, live electronics, interactive video and recited poetry.

Andrew A Watts – What it means to be post human
Takes the physical concept outlined in A Dialogue, In Absentia and re-imagines it in a futuristic, hive-mind scenario. A Dialogue uses implanted Bluetooth speakers to play back sounds through each trombone, having the performer actively modify the sound through mouth shapes and slide movements.

NIME 2024 wordt georganiseerd door de drie partners HKU Muziek & Technologie, Sounds Like Touch
