Joe Puglia – Voices of the Violin

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

Violinist Joe Puglia is known to be one of the absolute top violinists in the world. When he had to return his beloved violin, which he had played for 9 years, to its owner, he tried out more than 80 violins before choosing his next one. In the process, he discovered how each violin has its own personality and voice.

An insight that is central to his project Voices of the Violin: new pieces for solo violin in which the focus is on the personality of the violin, rather than that of the violinist. An exploration of how a musician is connected to his instrument, and how they grow together into a musical voice.

Joseph Puglia plays a violin by Anselmo Bellosio, Venice, c. 1785, owned by the Karel Appel Foundation.

With thanks to the Fonds Podiumkunsten for the funding of pieces by Silvia Borzelli, Martijn Padding, and Robin de Raaff; Gaudeamus, for the funding and workshops with Arieh Chrem, Livia Malossi, Jasper de Bock, and Alice Yeung; the Reinbert de Leeuw Stichting for the funding of works by Jan van de Putte, Samuel Carl Adams, Helena Winkelman, Juerg Frey, and Marton Illes.  And a special thanks to the Karel Appel estate for helping Joe Puglia find his next violin.
