In the Portuguese fairytale about stone soup, a stranger manages to convince a hungry village to make a delicious soup for each other by all contributing something. Improvisation collective BUI translates this story to the Gaudeamus Festival. The hungry travellers are musicians, the soup kettle is filled with some wind instruments and percussion, melodies and rhythm. The sound of the soup depends on what the villagers bring, and is therefore different every time.
BUI (Bevordering Utrechtse Improvisatie) is a Utrecht-based makers’ ensemble, consisting of three versatile musicians/artists: Elsa van der Linden, Lucas Kloosterboer and Mees Siderius. Driven by curiosity and fascination for play, ritual and connection, they search for the boundaries of music and space, always in dialogue with the audience, the location and the moment.
Stenensoep is made possible by Dioraphte, VSB Fonds, KFHeinFonds and the Municipality of Utrecht.
