ISLANDS OF CHANGE: Adama Delphine Fawundu (installation)

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

Referencing global movements that led to the displacement of people and indigenous ideologies because of colonialism, enslavement and the violence of patriarchy, this work creates a space to imagine new ideas in a safe, just and environmentally friendly world. Weaving together waters and lands spirited with indigenous energies, a mediation for the dispersed is an offering, a song, a vision for a sustainable and just future.

Islands of Change confronts the polycrisis – planetary collapse, genocide, war, tech-fascism, and growing authoritarianism – that increasingly leaves us at a loss in the face of the challenges it presents. Co-curated by Julian Rieken with Residenties in Utrecht and Gaudeamus, this long-term initiative asks: How do we reclaim our ‘response-ability’? How do we mobilize our (hyper)local ‘islands’ of artistic action to counteract rigid hierarchies, and in so doing, forge vibrant currents of solidarity?
