Synthese x Ito Collective

Synthese and Ito Collective present: HZY en MAIKY, To Van Kao, TWIENA en Ambu Bambu in Nomono

Synthese is a musical experience where you can explore material and immaterial heritage at unconventional venues in Utrecht.
On 12 December, Synthese collaborates with Ito Collective. In this edition, we aim to celebrate, connect, and share East and Southeast Asian culture. Together, Ito and Synthese will weave together traditional compositions with contemporary underground sounds, creating a tapestry that reflects the full spectrum of East and Southeast Asian musical expression.

HZY and MAIKY
HZY is a multidisciplinary Taiwanese artist based in the Netherlands. Her work explores DIY instruments, live performance, and interactive installation, blending everyday life, human connection, and the absurdity of existence with subtle humor and philosophical depth. MAIKY is a Dutch/Vietnamese artist based in the Netherlands and a member of Ito Collective. She expresses herself through the dance style krump. With a background in design, she creates projects that blend movement with technology, where she uses her body to interact with sound, light, video, and various experimental mediums.

To Van Kao
To Van Kao is a DJ, producer and vocalist who draws her influences from electro, techno, grime, UK bass and deconstructed club music. For this performance she plays an instrument rare in Europe, the Dan Bau.

TWIENA
Raised with a fusion of western values and traditional Asian culture, it took TWIENA
several years to develop and discover the courage to go after her passions with full
force. She supplies her audience with high-energy vibes that blend &
blur the lines between rolling and industrial Techno, Ghetto grooves, Trance
textures, and influences from the electronic scene of the UK, to Detroit, all the way
to South America – TWIENA creates unparalleled combinations of sound that are
fresh and tantalizing.

Ambu Bambu
A soft spoken personality with a musical vision and creativity that screams: hear me, feel me, move with me. Ambu Bambu’s music tells emotional stories of wanting to belong, yet fated to a destiny of floating in between. Their selections and productions span realms from breakbeat and bass, to dubbed-out fuzziness and oddball house and techno tracks just weird enough to make you doubt their genres. Outside of the club, Ambu Bambu is building a world consisting of ambient and experimental electronica through their radio concept Electronic Identity Crisis and their newest endeavor fruit salad – a platform for mixes and multi-sensory gatherings for fruities and cuties. The studio is a playground for exploring their darker side; painting up warped breaks, bass-heavy trips, and dizzying rhythms in a signature sound.

Ito Collective
Ito Collective aims to celebrate, connect, and share East and Southeast Asian culture through artistic expression. The name 糸 (Ito) means “string” in Japanese, symbolising their goal to connect the East and South East Asian community in the Netherlands and Europe, as well as sharing their culture with anyone who is curious.
