U? Festival: Catching Cultures Orchestra

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

Catching Cultures Orchestra is an Utrecht-based organisation of committed musicians with diverse cultural backgrounds, in particular newcomers, who create high-quality intercultural musical offerings for a diverse audience. CCO performs in varying ensembles and regularly collaborates with various guest musicians and music-related organizations. As a result, CCO knows how to surprise and move their audience time and time again.

During the U? Festival, CCO will perform a number of compositions commissioned by Gaudeamus. Since 1945, the organization has presented, stimulated and supported unheard harmonies by up-and-coming performers. Curious music lovers can get acquainted with the (composed) music of tomorrow: unheard combinations of genres, fresh perspectives on concert performance and radical new inventions in the field of sound and stage art, without boundaries or earmuffs.

Expect a surprising performance in which various cultures and sounds meet, with new compositions by Olupemi Oludare (NGA), Dirge Seçil Kuran (TUR) and Elizabete Beāte Rudzinska (LVA).

In addition to the compositions commissioned by Gaudeamus, the orchestra will perform a few pieces from their from the standard repertoire, with a rendition of a Chinese composition and a selection of songs from the Middle-East.
