For her project A Beautiful Path, composer Moore walks in stages from the east of the Netherlands to the westernmost point of Ireland. While walking, she develops a new music cycle inspired by troubadours who mapped the oral history of regions centuries ago. During Gaudeamus Festival 2024, she will make a stopover in Utrecht and present work-in-progress from this unique project.
On the Friday evening of the festival, she officially opens the exhibition with a live performance of A Beautiful Path: Ox Song Part I. It is the first part of a composition created during the first months of the walk, which led to Moore’s hometown of Oxford.
From Thursday 5 September to Saturday 28 September, there will also be an exhibition featuring two elaborations of this project: the sound installation A Beautiful Path: The Ox Way in which Moore’s field recordings from along the way are encapsulated in an aural roadmap, in which she plays and sings primal instruments such as the vielle and the lyre, and the photo exhibition Desire Lines by photographer Isabelle Vigier, who followed Moore during parts of her journey and charts the unique nature of her artistic research.
