disappear (Installation)

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

The installation disappear is a spatial sound journey that makes the emptiness that loss brings visible, tangible, and audible. Just as grief can overwhelm us or fade into the background, the music fills the room. A voice sounds lost in the silence or is swallowed up by other sounds, that voice finds a foothold and everything comes together just for a moment.
An arm and torso reach out to each other but do not reach each other: as a visitor, you can complete the embrace – the material of the sculpture discolours when touched due to temperature differences. Here, unlike the rest of art objects in the museum, touching is crucial: it is not only allowed but commended.
The composition lasts 8.30 minutes and plays continuously.

Koutchoukali, Douwstra, and Breuls, who play live on the Centraal Museum on Thursday, have joined forces especially for this project, a Gaudeamus production in collaboration with Utrecht’s Centraal Museum.
The installation is open from 11:00 to 17:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
