For her ongoing project A Beautiful Path, composer Moore walks in stages from the east of the Netherlands to the westernmost point of Ireland. While walking, she develops a new music cycle, inspired by troubadours who mapped out the oral history of regions centuries ago. During Gaudeamus Festival, she will present the premiere of the first completed work she wrote during this project: Garden of Thornless Roses, a mystical piece about the symbolism of flowers and medicinal herbs, for three instruments traditionally played by travelling troubadours: recorders, medieval harp and viella.

The internationally acclaimed Australian composer Kate Moore came to the Netherlands to pursue a master’s degree in The Hague, and never left. Her work is performed all over the world and she has already won several high-profile prizes, including the Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prize and the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulen Prize. During the two previous editions of Gaudeamus Festival, Moore has already shown parts of the work-in-progress A Beautiful Path.
