In the new solo performance LIJF!, oboist and performer Kayva van Gangelen turns the female body into an instrument of sound and memory. In interaction with an ingeniously designed coat with built-in wireless speakers and sensors, that respons to movement and touch, she brings bodily sensations and memories to life. The result is a musical, poetic and technically refined performance that lets the body speak where words fail, on themes such as bodily autonomy, experiencing other people’s gaze and the traces left by unwanted touch.
LIJF! is the latest production by music theatre company Perforator, run by Kayva, together with sound artist Akim Moiseenkov. They previously created the performance Performania, which was curated by Gaudeamus in Podium Hoge Woerd. In the solo performance LIJF!, Kayva van Gangelen combines her background as a classical oboist with cutting-edge technology and an ode to feminine power.
