Experimental cellist, singer and composer Mabe Fratti, originally from Guatemala and now based in Mexico City, combines contemporary influences from shoegaze and dreampop with age-old traditions such as Gregorian chant and Sephardic music. The result is a hypnotic and mesmerising sound that leaves a deep impression.
Fratti became a sensation with her 2019 album Será que ahora podremos entendernos. Last year she released its follow-up Se Ve Desde Aquí, which was similarly acclaimed, by Pitchfork among others: “Fratti’s music has always been beautiful, but this is a different, more daring kind of beauty.” In this concert, she presents brand new works in progress for organ, violin, viola, double bass, percussion, guitar and choir, partly made during a residency at Willem Twee Studios in Den Bosch.
Original commission from Gaudeamus, in collaboration with Tin Angel Records and Willem Twee Studios.
