Ensemble Klang – Album presentation

This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

Ensemble Klang has been one of the freshest and most exciting ensembles in the Netherlands for years. So it was high time they became one of our focus ensembles – ensembles for which the nominees for the Gaudeamus Award 2024 are composing new works. On the final day of the festival, Klang will play brand new works by three nominees: Lucy McKnight, Patrick Ellis and Beniamino Fiorini.

This concert also doubles as an album presentation of Klang’s new album Vanishing Point, collecting three works for the musicians of Ensemble Klang by Gaudeamus Award 2024 jury member Maya Verlaak. Interactive scores, musical puzzles, lead to unique sonic encounters for performers and listeners. The title track, for percussion solo and live electronics, explores the point at which a resonance disappears, where sound becomes pure ambience. It typifies a form of fragile open-mindedness, present in all three works, that exposes the humanity of Verlaak’s musical process, a humanity that holds control and chaos in a constant state of suspense. The album is released as CD, as well as online with complete videos of all three works, and context notes by Belgian music philosopher Tomas Serrien.
