This concert has already taken place. Click here for our current concert programme.

During the national festival the Day of the Composer, an initiative of New Music NOW, composers active in the Netherlands are in the spotlight. Throughout the day, musicians travels through the Netherlands and play music by the local city composer in various cities. The train ends in Utrecht, where music by the young sound artist Annabel Schouten will be performed.

Schouten works with space, silence and the sounds around us, in performative works that are experienced in the open air. By listening, the audience enters into a relationship with the place and with each other. For the Day of the Composer she designs a special musical performance that starts all throughout the city of Utrecht and centers on the station square of Utrecht Central Station. Utrecht based choirs come cycling and singing from different parts of the city, meet on the station square where their singing slowly transitions into the music of Composer Laureate Anne-Maartje Lemereis. After Lemereis’ piece, the choirs take over again, and the voices disappear in the direction they came from.
