Musical makers collective BUI (platform for improvised arts in Utrecht) is building a ritual playground. Constantly moving to the rhythm of the city. Wind instruments extended with PVC pipes can be heard, long drum rolls, scaffolding is built up and taken down, melodies are sung or sounds of the space listened to. All inspired by the here and NOW, a celebration of the moment. A musical ritual of which the space and the audience become an essential part.
BUI plays continuously in the hall of the library between 12:00 and 17:00. In their ritual playground, the group relates to the coming and going of people, the sounds present and the passage of time. With this ‘living exhibition’ BUI shares the knowledge it has gained over the past two years as a musical performative ensemble. Spectators are invited to participate in building a sound sculpture that will last 5 hours using cards with questions.
BUI is taking part in a New Makers program at Gaudeamus in 2023 and 2024, which is financially supported by the Performing Arts Fund.
