The anniversary edition of the Gaudeamus Muziekweek opens festively with a concert in which just for once we look back – but also ahead! Asko | Schönberg, the leading Dutch new music ensemble that has since its foundation been closely associated with Gaudeamus, offers us a cross section of works by composers who have also had a close relationship with Gaudeamus over the past 75 years. With special guest Hans van Koolwijk doing a surprise performance!
Spread over different parts of the Grote Zaal – thus completely in line with RIVM requirements – the top musicians of Asko | Schönberg imitate a live jukebox, playing a quirky medley of fragments of old and new works by composers such as Yannis Kyriakides, Michel van der Aa, Richard Ayres, Louis Andriessen and others. The full pieces can be listened to on our website immediately afterwards. And, in honour of this special anniversary, the programme includes a brand-new work by Composer Laureate of the Netherlands Calliope Tsoupaki. Interspersed with the musical programme, director Henk Heuvelmans will offer his perspective on the nearly 40 years of Gaudeamus that he has experienced.
This concert can be visited live by a select audience in TivoliVredenburg. Buy your ticket by clicking on the right side. The concert will also be streamed live online.
